Requests?
I really appreciate all the emails from you guys who enjoy what I am doing here and from time to time I'm asked if I take requests. Sure, why not? So, if you have a player you really want to see, drop me a line at info@cieradkowskidesign.com and tell me who you think should be part of The Infinite Baseball Card Set. I can't promise I will draw it up any time soon, but I'd like to see who YOU want! Keep checking in, I may have an announcement in the next couple of weeks regarding real limited edition sets of cards available...
I've got some request: Victor Starffin (Russian born Japanese League pitcher- first 300 game winner in Japan) and some old-time woman ballplayers like Maud Nelson or Lizzie Murphy (they were notable barn-stormers)
ReplyDeleteI actually have a Starffin card almost finished now, will probably be up sometime next week or two. Never heard of Maud Nelson or lizzie Murphy, do you have any good photographs of them? I want to do a card of Jackie Mitchell, at 16 she played 1 game for the Chatanooga Lookouts and struck out Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig in an exhibition game. Well known woman, but no good pictures I can find yet.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, there aren't a lot of pics, but from time to time old postcards sold by barn-storming bloomer girl teams show up on eBay.
ReplyDeleteHere some pics at:

And here is a great story by a couple of "Women in Baseball" researchers tracking down Maud Nelson:

Here is a little bit of background on Lizzie Murphy (first woman to officially play against Major League Ballplayers):

I just ran into a photo of Lizzie Murphy I had never seen before: http://warrenathletichalloffame.com/v-web/gallery/albums/Archives-Pre-1930/archives_1922_lizzie_murphy_Harris2.jpg
ReplyDeleteHi ernest,
DeleteI'm the one who created the website and live in the town where Lizzie was born. I'm trying to find a original card of her. I have a replica card of her which I placed on the website. Email me back if you would like more information ohboyjjf@cox.net ( Jay)
How about George Plimpton? His pitching exhibition against the 1960 NL All-Stars was just a start, given the variety of things he eventually tried.
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to an announcement about the sets, especially if you had an uncut sheet available for framing...
ReplyDeleteI know of Plimpton's other sports experiences, but never heard of his Baseball one!
ReplyDeleteJust some ideas:
ReplyDeleteBill Lee
a young Pete Rose
Buck O'Neill
Chuck Connors
Cy Young
Joe Jackson
Hmmm...
ReplyDeleteHow about:
Archibald Wright "Moonlight" Graham
Mordecai Brown
Christy Mathewson
John McGraw
Jay Hanna "Dizzy" Dean
Gilbert Raymond Hodges
Oh, and I agree actual hard copies of these would be amazing.
ReplyDeleteThose are some great suggestions, Moonlight Graham is a cool one, is there any pictures of him? Gil Hodges, yes! Buck O'Neill is another good one, been looking for a good shot of him to use. Joe Jackson is coming up, I did one of him for my 1919 Black Sox set and I also want to do one of him when he played in the minors with Greenville. Keep 'em coming!
ReplyDeleteThanks! Apparently Graham had a card, here is the largest image I could find of that card from a quick search: http://minnesota.twins.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20050629&content_id=1108281&vkey=news_min&fext=.jsp&c_id=min
ReplyDeleteThat's the same picture I found, and I think I'm going to run with it! Look for Moonlight sometime soon.
ReplyDeleteSid Fynch.
ReplyDeleteJust kidding! :)
How about Chuck Harmon. He made it to the majors with the Reds, but started out in the Negro Leagues.
Your cards are amazing and I'm looking forward to following along with the set's progress.
ReplyDeleteI'd love to one day see Pickles Dillhoefer appear in the Infinite Set.
http://thephilliesroom.blogspot.com/search/label/Dillhoefer
just wondring, will this be something you will be printing into actual cards and possibly selling. I would definately be interested in purchasing the set or ongoing subsets i guess would be the more realistic way.
ReplyDeleteUnlike the modern card sets this would actually be something you could sit down with kids and teach kids about the history and lesser known players and stories of the game while going threw the cards
How about Tony Malinosky, currently the oldest living former player
ReplyDeleteHow about Joe Nuxhall, the youngest pitcher in mlb history, and a Red...
ReplyDeleteCouple others:
Eric Davis
Bip Roberts (he's now a hobby legend)
Jim Abbott
Clemente
I'd love to see a Roberto Clemente card - perhaps in a Montreal uniform? To the best of my knowledge, Bill Veeck has never appeared on a baseball card. And as a Cubs fan, please indulge me with votes for Ryne Sandberg and Bill Buckner. Keep up the great work!
ReplyDeleteCAMERON: A card of the old left-hander is definately coming soon, I used to live in Cincinnati and Covington, KY and listening to Nuxy and Marty Brenneman made my summer for years. On top of that, I met him and he was a class act all the way.I researched the uniform he would have worn that day when he pitched against the mighty Cardinals at age 15 and will put a card together soon.
ReplyDeleteRAYMOND: I actually have a snapshot of Clemente in a Montreal uniform sitting in my pile of ideas. The idea of Roberto ending up as a Dodger was too good to pass up, so consider him on the way also.
How about a Charles Dillon "Casey" Stengel.
